I’m reading Emily St John Mandel’s very good Station Eleven at the moment, which I’d really recommend. It won the Arthur C. Clarke award, which goes to the best sci-fi novel published in the UK each year.

Last weekend I went to North Queensferry, near Edinburgh, and got a great view of the Forth rail bridge:

There’s a nifty interactive image on Wikipedia that compares its span to other bridges, including the Golden Gate Bridge.
