Gospels, jazz, and why Hamilton is like the Old Testament
This week I wrote a review of Sarah Ruden’s recent Gospels book, which I mentioned in my email last week. In it, I try to explain why different translations matter, and why I found this one particularly interesting. I’d like to read more translations and compare them, but first I need to read more translated literature for the first time… reply or comment with any suggestions!
Two additional recommendations from some friends:
First is Sam Enright’s Beginner’s Guide to Miles Davis, which is an extensive and insightful biography/highlights reel of the jazz trumpeter. With an accompanying Spotify playlist!
Second is Cameron’s post on Genesis, "Hamilton" and Repetition. If you liked the gospels post, or literature generally, you will enjoy this. Please read and subscribe to pressure Cameron into writing more…
Til next week,
